この love の進行形は、少なくともアイルランド育ちのアイルランド人たちは、
少なくとも昔はよく使っていたのではないかと思う。少なくとも 1910 年に書かれた
戯曲を読んでいて、俺はそう感じた。その戯曲は、"Anna Christie" というもので、
Irish-American であるノーベル賞を受賞した Eugene O'Neill が書いたもの。
70ページほどのこの戯曲は船の上での人々のやり取りを描いているが、
Mat Burke という stoker (stalker ではなくて stoker) が出てくる。この人は
アイルランド育ちのアイルランド人であるらしい。この人がしゃべる英語においては、
love などの状態動詞を片っ端から進行形でしゃべる。その戯曲をすべて読めば
よくわかるが、状態動詞の進行形の用例のうち、ごく一部を紹介する。

用例を挙げるのはこれでやめておく。Matt Burke というこの人は、標準英語では決してあり得ないくらいに
片っ端から進行形を使い続ける。おそらくアイルランド育ちのアイルランド人だと思うけど、
この戯曲はあくまで 1910 だ。（さっき俺はこの戯曲が 1910年 に書かれたと言ってしまったがそれは
間違いで、この戯曲の舞台が 1910 年の Massachusettes とか New York City とか Boston に設定されている。）

アイルランド生まれのアイルランド人らしき人が出てくる戯曲を他にも読んだり、その映画版を見てきたけど、
他の戯曲や映画などでは、こんな進行形の連発は見られなかった。もしかしたら 1910 年ごろまでは
アイルランド生まれのアイルランド人のうち、あまり高い教育を受けていない人はそういう英語をしゃべる人
が多かったのかもしれない。そのあとになって、イギリスやアメリカの標準英語の影響を受けて、そんな
しゃべり方をしなくなったのかもしれないと、今の俺は考えている。

しかしそうだとしても、
アイルランド人たちのこういう進行形の連発は、現代アメリカ英語にもいくらか影響を与えたに違いなくて、
その一例として McDonald's の I'm lovin' it! が表面化したのではないかと俺は考えている。
ところで、McDonald's はその名前を見てもわかる通り、アイルランド系あるいはスコットランド系の名前だ。

これは三人称だが、もしかしたら展示での目の前の彫刻か絵を指しての目下
「愛撫している」という表現かもしれない。それなら進行形になる。

これは作家Walter Benjaminの本が大好きな強意なのか、変化なのかわからない。
全知の語り手が方言を話しているということも文学的な可能性としてはゼロではないがｗ
文そのものは三人称で、内面は隠れていない。

これはよくわからない。強意だということならそうなのだろうが。

この「地方の総称」とは具体的に何を言っているのかわからん。もしも
フランス全土の地方をすべてまとめて the region と呼ぶのだと言っているとしたら、
それは間違いだと思う。

フランス語の辞書を見ても、region (ただし e には accent aigu がつく) というフランス語の
単語は、一つ一つの地方（クラウン仏和辞典の第7版では「地域圏」と訳している）を指す。
現代のフランスには 22 に及ぶ regions があり、たとえば Asace, Aquitaine, Corse, Ile-de-France
などの regions (複数) がある。なお、厳密な意味ではなく通常の「地方」というような意味で
la region de Lyon (リヨン地方) などという使い方もある。これについては、英語もほぼ同じだろう。

第2版では2万ページ、最新版の第3版が2039年に完成した暁には4万ページに及ぶと思われる
The OED Third Edition (Online) によると、英語の region がフランスの region に関して
使われるときには、次の通りの意味。

4. a. An administrative division; a subdivision of a larger geographical or political unit,
for economic, administrative, or cultural purposes. In later use esp.: such a subdivision
specifically created to form part of a system of local government or administration,
or defined for the purposes of demographic surveying, planning, etc.

(...) ★in France, any of the 26 administrative areas into which the country has been divided
since 1964 (together with five overseas regions added in 1982), further subdivided
into departments (see department n. 4a)★.

このように、OED でもやはり region は複数で使われ、フランス全土の地方を the region という
単数で使うことはないはずだということになる。あくまで複数の「地方」のようなものがフランスには
あり、それら一つ一つを a region と呼び、たくさんの地方があるからそれらは複数の regions と呼ぶ。
