But late in 2017, Hirofumi Yoshimura, the mayor of Osaka, said that he was going to end the cities' relationship as sister cities.
The dispute was over a statue of four "comfort women," who were forced into sexual slavery by the Japanese military before and during World War II, being installed in SF's Chinatown.

"This is highly regrettable," he told reporters in November 2017. "The relationship of trust has completely been destroyed." He vowed to end the relationship by the end of the year, but there's no word on whether or not he did.
