I proposed a spectrum auction, calculating that it would generate an annual income of 5 trillion yen for the national treasury as the Minister of General Affairs. Are there any other countries besides Japan that have not introduced spectrum auctions like advanced countries? I used to be frequently invited to terrestrial TV programs. Each of the four semi-regular programs I appeared on was a popular show with high ratings. I vividly remember being called the "devilish Minister of General Affairs" by TV station executives when I proposed the spectrum auction. Since then, I have had significantly fewer opportunities to appear on terrestrial TV.

私は総務大臣として、周波数オークションが年間5兆円の国庫収入をもたらすと試算して提案した。
先進国のように周波数オークションを導入していない国は日本以外にあるのか。
かつては地上波の番組によく呼ばれていた。
私が出演した準レギュラー番組4本はいずれも視聴率の高い人気番組だった。
周波数オークションを提案した際、テレビ局幹部から「悪魔の総務大臣」と呼ばれたことを鮮明に覚えている。
それ以来、地上波に出る機会はめっきり減った。
