次のone in front of the other という表現がよくわかりません。
Desks are positioned one in front of the other.
机が向かい合わせに置かれている。
one という名詞はなぜ受け身の動詞の後ろに置けるのですか?
名詞じゃないのでしょうか?

確かに one は、名詞（またはそれに似たもの）ですね。しかし positioned が one を修飾して
いるのではありません。もし positioned が one を修飾しているのなら、
a positioned one
the positioned one
positioned ones
the positioned ones
のいずれかになるはずです。
